Minnesota DFL Senator John Marty
ST. PAUL – Minnesota lawmakers already have the pressure of coming up with a new budget during this session, and last week’s attempt at a federal freeze by President Trump did not ease any of those tensions.
DFL Senator John Marty, the chair of the Finance Committee says if the federal government decides to cut back on Medicaid, they could, even if they cut it by a fourth of their funding for Minnesota, which would have a multi-billion dollar effect on the Minnesota budget.
Senator Marty says the federal government gives Minnesota about 20 billion dollars in funding each year. He says any changes to that will make it even tougher to come up with a budget plan.
