GLENWOOD MINN. – The Pope County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to use caution when driving on area lakes. They say on Saturday a pickup went through the ice on Lake Minnewaska.
The sheriff’s office says the area extends out from approximately Old Highway 28 going south across Lake Minnewaska. They did not say if the driver of the pickup was injured, but in a photo posted on their Facebook page, it appears the water was only about 3 feet deep where it broke through.
The recent temperature changes have caused the ice to expand and contract, causing pressure ridges and gaps in the ice.
