KARLSRUE, N.D. (KFGO) – A Voltaire, North Dakota man died Wednesday night in a crash while he attempted to pull his pickup from a ditch.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the 64-year-old driver was leaving the driveway of a rural McHenry County location when the pickup went off the road and got stuck.
Another pickup driven by a 74-year-old Balfour man was used to try and tow the other truck from the ditch. As the pickup was being towed, the two vehicles got close to a nearby “structure.”
The two men stopped to check their progress and the 64-year-old man exited his pickup while the 74-year-old man resumed towing the vehicle, not knowing the other driver was out of his truck. He was pinned between his vehicle and the structure. He was then pulled free and CPR was performed at the scene. He later died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.
The Highway Patrol says the incident remains under investigation.
