FARGO (KFGO) – A 29-year-old man is in the Cass County jail, accused of stealing a vehicle and fleeing officers in Fargo Tuesday morning.
The Metro Street Crimes Unit contacted the Highway Patrol after finding a vehicle that fled from troopers last week.
The troopers responded to a north Fargo neighborhood where a man was sleeping in the vehicle. The Highway Patrol says the man woke up, hopped into the driver’s seat, and began to drive away.
Troopers tried to box the vehicle in and used a PIT maneuver, but the man drove off at a high rate of speed. The troopers did not pursue because the man drove through a residential yard and nearly hit a person.
About 10 to 15 minutes later, officers with the Metro Street Crimes Unit saw the vehicle pulling into a parking lot.
The officers arrested the man, identified as Robert Peightal, as he was walking away from the vehicle. The Highway Patrol says the vehicle was stolen.
Peightal, who has no known address, is facing a number of felony and misdemeanor charges including fleeing, reckless endangerment, theft, and drug charges.
