As I was walking Tuesday after another hot day I was saddened by how few people were out. It was hot. I get that. But my daughter and I went for a walk I began to imagine the neighborhood before a/c. Kids splashing in a sprinkler? Parents sitting out on the patio or the lawn visiting or maybe getting a little mist on them?
But now most people retreat inside to the controlled environment of 72 degree’s. My mind drifted to how a/c has changed neighborhoods. Maybe without a/c more people would be out visiting?
Getting to know each other forging the bonds of neighborhoods and community. I know we’ll never go back and I’ll admit a cold shower and cool bed provided a sound night sleep. Would I want to live without a/c? No. Would my grandparents have appreciated a/c? Of course but with a/c we also lost a little too.
