FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo voters said “No” to a sales tax that would have funded improvements to Fargodome. It received 48%. The quarter-cent sales tax needed 60 percent. Fargodome Authority President David Suppes says the results were not what the authority expected.
“Disappointing to see that we were under 60%. Even more that were under the 50, but the voters of Fargo expressed their voice,” Suppes says. “It’s not what we wanted to see from the Authority’s standpoint, but it’s a message.”
The sales tax would have financed $110-million for the updates with the fargodome providing another $30-million.
Suppes says the next step is to update the Fargodome for now.
“Now we have to take a look at what we can do in the short term to do, some of the things that need to be done to keep the building into shape,” Suppes says.
He adds the the Authority has about $30 million saved to update the Dome.
Suppes says by early next year, the Authority will start looking at “Plan B” to determine what they have in their permanent fund for some renovations to the dome.
