Minnesota has topped the nation in voter turnout for five of the last seven presidential elections, but Maine took those honors twice and the question is, will Minnesota reclaim first place today?
Secretary of State Steve Simon says he feels “very good” that it could happen because of the enthusiasm, the intensity, and perceived closeness of the election… and that the governor is on the national ticket.
Simon says, “There are people who strongly approve of him who will be a little bit extra motivated to show up, and there are people who strongly disapprove of him who will be strongly motivated to show up for… very different reasons.”
Simon says he’s not suggesting it’s a turnout “game-changer” but could improve Minnesota’s numbers at the margin.
