GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – A man is facing several charges after a stabbing at a homeless shelter in Grand Forks.
Grand Forks Police were called to Northlands Rescue Mission just before 7:45 Friday morning. Police found a 37-year-old man on the 5th floor with stab wounds. He was taken to Altru hospital. Police learned the victim was stabbed during an argument. Witnesses identified a suspect.
While on scene, officers learned a pickup had been stolen from a worksite near the Mission. Officers tracked the pickup with GPS, and deputies from Grand Forks Sheriff’s Office tried to stop the truck. The driver sped up and fled. Deputies and Highway Patrol troopers chased the pickup through Grand Forks County, and used spike strips to pop both back tires.
The driver continued into Walsh County, and Walsh County deputies joined the chase. Spike strips were used again, and deflated the front tires. The driver continued fleeing before finally crashing at the intersection of North Dakota Highways 18 and 17. The truck went into a field and got stuck.
The driver, 44-year-old Moses Ayom, was not injured. He was arrested for vehicle theft, fleeing, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. The Grand Forks County Attorney’s Office has been forwarded information on the stabbing, and is considering charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
