WILMAR, Minn (KFGO/WCCO) – A man is in custody after shooting two people in west-central Minnesota.
The incident began in Minneapolis around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on Lyndale Avenue in the Lyn-Lake area where a suspect allegedly began shooting at his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend from the upper floors of an apartment building.
“They said that there was a safety concern at Lime Apartments… come to find out that it’s a guy that lives on the sixth floor and somebody has a video of him pointing a gun and shooting at cars,” says resident Zach Boyle. “I tried to get in my apartment by driving up the block and they were not letting anybody into like the whole block or two area.”
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says the two were targeted as they were leaving. Neither were injured.
O’Hara says negotiators got a hold of the suspect while he was heading out of town and attempted to talk him into peacefully surrendering.
He ended up in Wilmar, where investigators with the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department say he shot and killed a carjacking victim, and then went to a nearby home and shot and injured the homeowner before being taken into custody.
