GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – A Grand Forks woman was arrested after police say she kidnapped her child from Child Protective Services.
According to Grand Forks Police, the child was removed from a hotel room during a narcotics investigation at the Quality Inn on Thursday. Krysta Ramstad, 22, arrived and was told CPS was taking custody of the child.
While a CPS worker was evaluating the child’s wellbeing, Ramstad took the child. She pushed officers out of the way, and left the hotel. Officers would not stop or restrain Ramstad because she was holding the child.
Police say Ramstad got into a car while yelling and swearing at officers. She then drove away at a high rate of speed, endangering the child. Several phone calls were made to deescalate the situation and asking her to return to the hotel.
Officers later located Ramstad at an apartment, where she initially resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.
The child was placed back under the protection of CPS following the incident.
Ramstad is charged with kidnapping, fleeing, resisting arrest, and child endangerment and neglect.
