ROCHESTER, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – A former Minnesota State Trooper was booked into jail Monday on manslaughter charges.
32-year-old Shane Roper is accused of causing the death of 18-year-old Olivia Flores of Owatonna.
Investigators say Roper was going 83 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone trying to pull someone over for a minor traffic violation near the Apache Mall in Rochester when he collided with an uninvolved vehicle making a turn. The accident killed Flores and injured several others.
Records show Roper was involved in four accidents before the fatal crash. The Minnesota State Patrol announced last month that he was no longer employed by the agency.
His trial is schedule to begin next march.
