LONG PRAIRIE, Minn. (KFGO) – A horse in central Minnesota that died last month tested positive for West Nile Virus.
State animal health officials say the 2-year-old Belgian colt in Todd County was not vaccinated.
The horse was unable to stand up the morning of Aug. 26 and died later that day.
The horse’s owner says three horses on a neighboring farm all died a few days earlier and showed similar signs of illness. Those horses were not confirmed for the virus.
It’s the first confirmed equine case in Minnesota this year.
