BATTLE LAKE, Minn. (KFGO) – No one was injured when a single propeller airplane lost power and was forced to land in a lake’s area corn field just after noon on Saturday.
Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office reports the airplane was inbound preparing to land at the Battle Lake Airport for an organized fly-in. As the 41-year-old Kindred man approached the landing strip, he lost power forcing an emergency landing. The plane touched down before ultimately ending up on its top.
A four-year-old passenger was also in the plane, neither claimed injuries and there was minimal visible damage to the airplane.
The “Gathering of Planes” is in its 18th year. The organized fly-in ,is a memorial to Gerry Beck, raising funds for the Battle Lake Area Community Fund.
The NTSB will be handling the investigation.
