MINOT, N.D. (KFGO) – The Minot Police Department reports one man is dead after what police are calling a suicide investigation when an officer conducted a traffic stop at 7:35 yesterday evening on Hwy 2/52 near the 16th Street SW exit. When the officer made contact, the man driving raised a handgun and made a threatening comment.
In response, the officer took cover in his patrol vehicle and attempted to communicate with the man who would not respond to the officer’s attempts. The SWAT team also responded to the scene.
After about 30 minutes, the man sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound with the gun he displayed earlier. Officers approached and rendered aid until the man was transported by Trinity Ambulance and later died.
The area of Hwy 2/52 between 16th St. SW and S. Broadway has been cleared, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police say they are treating this as a suicide investigation and, per department procedures for suicide investigations, no further information will be made public at this time.
