MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – Five people were sentenced in Federal Court in Minneapolis for child abuse and neglect Thursday.
The abuse happened on the Red Lake Reservation between January 2021 and April 2022. The victim was abused by their foster parent and other caregivers. The victim was starved and beat multiple times.
The child’s foster parent, 50-year-old Trisha Johnson, was convicted of child torture, neglect, endangerment, and assaulting a minor with a weapon in February. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison, and 5 years’ probation.
Johnsons’ three sisters, Bobbi, Ellie, and Patricia Johnson, and Bertram Lussier were all convicted for their abuse of the child.
Bobbi Johnson was convicted by a federal jury for child neglect and endangerment. She was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
Ellie Johnson, Patricia Johnson, and Lussier each pleaded guilty to child endangerment. Ellie and Patricia Johnson were both sentenced to 4 years in prison and three years of supervised release. Lussier was sentenced to 2 years in prison and two years of probation.
