WEST FARGO (KFGO) – West Fargo Police say a central Minnesota man was shot and later died after he attempted to illegally enter Prairie Heights Community Church on 32nd Ave. East on Saturday morning.
He’s been identified as Austin Strom, 25, of Browerville. Family members say he had recently joined the church.
Police say Strom was confronted by 66-year-old Kent Hodges of West Fargo, also a church member. Police say Strom became agitated and was attacking Hodges. 53-year-old Donald Barron II of Moorhead told police that he saw Strom begin to advance on Hodges and he fired a single gunshot with his personal handgun. Strom died at a Fargo hospital. Hodges was hospitalized with severe, but not life-threatening injuries.
There are no charges pending at this point against Barron. The results of the investigation will be turned over to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
