FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo City Commission approved a revised preliminary 2025 budget but not without some opposition. The commission vote was 3-2.
Mayor Tim Mahoney made some changes to his earlier budget plan.
It seeks $133 million, up 11.19% from the 2024 budget plan. He said the city budget team has methodically gone through the financial statements “line by line” looking for savings.” Mahoney also said they have worked hard to scrutinize expenses, making sure the needs are covering the associated costs and for ways to verify revenues.
Commissioners John Strand and Dave Piepkorn voted against the preliminary budget. Piepkorn made it clear more cuts should be made.
Piepkorn told Mahoney he doesn’t support the mayor’s budget and that he wants to make some cuts. Piepkorn said there’s been no effort to reduce anything in any department and “that’s pathetic.”
The final budget must be completed on or before October 7.
