FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo Convention and Visitors Bureau will ask the Fargo City Commission on Monday to add 3% lodging tax to the current 3% lodging tax to build conference space in the city.
Executive Director Charley Johnson says the tax would be in effect for 25 years.
Johnson says it does not specifically call for a particular project, only for the establishment of a committee to request proposals for a public-private partnership. T
The Fargodome Authority will also ask the commission to put a question on the ballot for a 1/4 cent, 20-year sales tax to remodel and expand the dome. If the commission goes along, both questions would be on the November ballot.
Last December, Fargo voters rejected a $140 million proposal for dome expansion and the addition of a convention center. It needed 60% approval, but received just under 52%.
