BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (KFGO) – The family of a 3-year-old boy who was mauled by two dogs and later died at a hospital in the Twin Cities donated his heart Monday.
A GoFundMe page created to help the family of Covil Allen says the boy’s heart went to a 1-year-old girl.
“This is the most beautiful thing to come from this tragedy and we couldn’t be happier that his heart was able to save someone,” the post says. “Sadly, his liver did not fit the child on the list to receive it, but his heart will live on.”
Covil was attacked by the dogs July 19 while his family was at a home where the animals were being sold. When the dogs began to attack the boy, adults started to defend him using hammers and pick axes.
Police officers arrived and saw the dogs attacking the child and shot both animals, police said. One dog was killed and the other was taken to a veterinary hospital and euthanized.
Covil’s mother was bitten on the leg during the attack and required surgery for the injuries.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised over $63,000 as of Wednesday morning.
