ST. PAUL – Over 25 leaders of Minnesota labor unions and labor organizations are urging Vice President Kamala Harris to choose Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 presidential election.
Among the Minnesota unions supporting Walz for the V-P pick are the AFL-CIO, Teamsters, AFSCME, SEIU Healthcare, Inter Faculty Organization, Education Minnesota, United Food and Commercial Workers, plus other union locals and labor organizations.
They point to Walz’s time as a high school teacher and coach, his military service, and six terms in the U.S. House representing a deep red district in southern Minnesota. They say Walz has shown he can connect to voters at county fairs about kitchen table economics or in the heart of the multiracial Twin Cities.
They say a ticket with Walz likely delivers Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Omaha Nebraska area and makes Michigan extremely competitive.
Walz told C-N-N he would “do what is in the best interest of the country” if offered the chance to run with Harris. When pressed for a more definitive answer, he only said “We’ll cross paths when we get there.”
