Union County, S.D. (KFGO) – One man died and another was injured in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in North Sioux City, SD, just before 2 on Friday afternoon.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of the first car was traveling northbound on Interstate 29, slowed by congested traffic entering a construction zone. The driver of a second car, traveling the same direction at highway speeds, collided with the rear of the first, causing it to enter the median and roll over. The second car went across the southbound lane and collided with a fence in the west ditch where it came to rest.
Both drivers were transported to a Sioux City hospital where the driver of the first car, a 69-year-old man, died from his injuries. The 58-year-old man driving the second suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary. The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
