ST. CLOUD, MINN. – St. Cloud officials are scrambling this week before former President Donald Trump’s rally in St. Cloud on Saturday.
Mayor Dave Kleis says his office did not have a lot of advance notice before Tuesday’s announcement. St. Cloud’s Public Safety Department is coordinating efforts with area Sheriff’s Offices, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Secret Service for security not only for Trump and JD Vance but also for the people attending the rally.
Kleis says it will be a lot of coordinated effort, especially in recent light of the assassination attempt, and that probably heightens the event even more but it’s not unique.
Kleis says Trump and Vance may not be traveling together, so that could add more logistics to security. The event at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center is on Saturday .
Kleis says he’s stayed out of partisan politics for 20 years, so he does not plan on going to the rally.
