STURGIS, S.D. (KFGO) – A Wyoming man who shot at a South Dakota state trooper during last summer’s Sturgis motorcycle rally has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says 29-year-old Wyatt Fluty of Saratoga, Wyoming pleaded guilty in May to attempted murder and committing a felony with a gun.
On August 9, the trooper stopped Fluty near Sturgis for suspicion of stealing a vehicle from Wyoming. The trooper tried to arrest Fluty, who also had stolen guns.
Fluty ran and fired two shots at the trooper who returned fire before Fluty tried to steal the trooper’s squad car.
An off-duty Minnesota deputy stopped to help the trooper and the two took Fluty into custody.
Fluty suffered minor injuries. The trooper and deputy were not hurt.
