BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – People in Stutsman and Kidder counties might notice a helicopter hauling some strange-looking equipment starting next week.
Starting Monday, the North Dakota Department of Water Resources will be conducting an electromagnet survey over 1,450 square miles.
The survey involves a helicopter with a large metal hoop-shaped antennae underneath flying about 100 feet above the ground.
The antennae sends and receives electro-magnetic signals, and geologists use the information gathered to help map aquifers.
The helicopter will fly for 1,620 miles of east-west patterns spaced 500 to 2000 meters apart.
The pilot is specially trained, and won’t fly over populated areas.
