ST. PAUL – State lawmakers are accusing University of Minnesota officials of not doing enough to respond to anti-Israel and anti-Jewish incidents on the Twin Cities campus.
U of M Interim president Jeff Ettinger told a Senate committee they take every report of bias or hateful speech seriously and follow up with action whenever appropriate.
He says the university has worked to take a comprehensive approach to combatting anti-semitism. That includes educational efforts, comprehensive anti-discrimination protections, and other preventative measures.
Senator Ron Latz of St. Louis Park criticized Ettinger for the lack of sanctions against nine pro-Palestine protesters who violated the law. Ettinger says the U of M stands against antisemitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of hate and bias.
