Governor Burgum,
At some point, the national media is going to vet you for the national stage. There are questions they might ask if they dig a little deeper. So, as someone in the media that knows you well enough and knows to ask these questions, let me take a run at it and try to help you out.
We know you said on Meet the Press that Donald Trump is not someone you’d want to do business with. But why did you tell us on KFGO that you wouldn’t run with Donald Trump in 2024? It’s pretty clear you didn’t want the job then that you’re now anxiously applying for. You’ve spent thousands, possibly millions of dollars for it now. What is it about a man you didn’t have respect for, that now makes you adore him?
Why did you tell us that North Dakota needs the type of workers that Texas was getting into their state? You said we need to deal ourselves a hand in the “thousand workers a day” entering Texas. You must have known that any number as large as that must contain immigrants entering the country illegally. So did you really see the southern border as a problem?
Why do most of the people in your life say that prior to running for President, you were pro-choice? The media might ask some members of your circle on that. They can only hear “no comment” so many times before in their mind they know the answer.
And finally, are you concerned at all about Donald Trump’s perception of you as a tough guy? The emotions you showed during your State of the State addresses show how sensitive you are. They’re emotions that Donald Trump doesn’t possess or want shown. The conservative national media might interpret it as weak, and something Trump might disrespect.
All of these are questions you might be asked through the vetting process. Whether you believe they are valid or not doesn’t matter in the political world. They’re going to ask questions like this based on their interpretation of what Trump wants.
I hope it helps you on the big stage. So get ready.
Good riding with you,
Joel
