WEST FARGO (KFGO KVRR) – A number of employees have been recently laid off from a West Fargo-based development company, many of them without explanation.
And now, some contractors who are owed money by Epic Companies say they’re worried about getting paid for work they’ve already done.
One of the contractors says that when he showed up for work, he was told there’s no money to pay them.
The North Dakota Securities Department says it hasn’t taken any action against Epic, but an agent with the department was at the company’s West Fargo offices on Friday. The office lights were off and a note on the door at Epic said “open by appointment only.”
Multiple attempts have been made to speak with Epic officials, but Epic has not responded to any requests for comment.
The US Attorney’s Office in Fargo won’t comment on whether it is part of or involved in any investigation of Epic.
Epic owns and manages commercial and residential buildings across the region, notably The Lights and Sheyenne Plaza in West Fargo, and developments in Fargo, Moorhead, Grand Forks, Perham, Jamestown, and Bismarck.
Last year, Epic took over management of Norsk Hostfest, a Norwegian cultural event in Minot that brings in well-known acts and entertainers.
