GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. – Fire officials say wildfire activity is about normal for the middle of May in Minnesota.
“We’re seeing reports of fires daily. Throughout Minnesota, it really depends on the day,” Leanne Langeberg of the Interagency Fire Center says.
Langeberg says fires are transitioning from grasslands to conifer trees and heavier vegetation. Crews are battling a wildfire in the Superior National Forest that was beyond a prescribed burn area near Tofte.
A total of 795 fires have burned about 11,500 acres so far this year in the state.
