It takes a village, and that well-known sentiment holds true when running a farm. The fourth annual MN Young & Emerging Farmer Workshop is here to bring the village to participants and to expand them at MN Ag Expo.
Navigating farm management can be challenging and unpredictable, but the Workshop on Jan. 18-20, 2027, will provide connections to experts and other growers to maneuver through tough decisions.
“It seems like growers get pulled a lot of different ways, and I think when you have a program like the MN Young & Emerging Farmer Workshop, where you can meet other people and have that time to visit and share ideas and get information from the presenters it’s always a good opportunity,” said Jeremy Tischer, a Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) director and MN Young & Emerging Farmer Workshop committee chair.
Hosted by MSGA and sponsored by the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council and Profinium Bank, the workshop has served as a tool for those growers transitioning through a succession plan, those looking for broader knowledge of financials on the farm, a network of similar peers from around the state and more.
The Workshop’s short application is open and required to be accepted into the program. Requirements include being 21-45 years of age and actively crop farming in Minnesota. Applications close Oct. 31, with capacity maxed at 30 participants, after which a waitlist will become available. Participation is free with lodging expenses covered.
“I think it’s a great time of the year for people to start making some plans for occupying the month of January,” Tischer said. “The MN Young & Emerging Farmer Workshop, in coordination with MN Ag Expo, is a great opportunity for people to take in MN Ag Expo, but also to commingle with other producers, take in workshops that normally one might have to pay for and just getting a wealth of knowledge on a lot of different aspects of agriculture and modern farming.”
