The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks rode a 13-hit offensive explosion to defeat the Kansas City Monarchs 8-4 at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks struck first in the opening frame thanks to a Jesus Lujano single and a José Sermo sacrifice fly, but the Monarchs quickly punched back. Kansas City briefly snatched the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Luken Baker launched a towering two-run home run to left field, making it a 3-1 ballgame.
Fargo-Moorhead took complete control in the later innings. After manufacturing three runs in the sixth to tie and then reclaim the lead, the RedHawks delivered the knockout blow in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Cole Yearsley ripped a clutch line drive to right field that drove in two runs, and an ensuing outfield error allowed a third run to cross the plate, extending the lead to 8-4. Designated hitter Jesus Lujano anchored the lineup by going a spectacular 4-for-5 on the night, while reliever Angelo Cabral closed out the ninth inning with a game-ending strikeout to lock down the home victory.
The Fargo Moorhead RedHawks look to complete the series sweep against Kansas City Sunday July 5th. First pitch will be at 1:00pm
