(KNFL/KFGO) – The Minnesota Golden Gophers will be getting a new addition to their coaching staff. Former assistant coach of the Moorhead Spuds hockey squad, Matt Cullen, will be joining the Minnesota Golden Gophers coaching staff, as the new Director of Player Development. Cullen has also been a minority owner of the Fargo Force of the USHL. Matt Cullen won 3 Stanley Cups in his time in the NHL, winning a title with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, and then winning back-to-back titles with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
Matt has two sons that are committed to the University of Minnesota for hockey. Those sons are Brooks Cullen, who is currently playing for the Fargo Force, and Wyatt Cullen, who is currently playing for the United States National Team Development Program. His youngest son, Joey, helped the Moorhead Spuds win their 2nd straight State Hockey Championship.
