BENSON, Minn. (KFGO) – The Swift County Sheriff’s Office in central Minnesota is investigating a hit and run crash that injured one person.
Swift County officials received a call about a one-vehicle crash near the intersection of 45th Street NE and County Road 29 on March 27. That’s northeast of Benson and about 45 miles south of Alexandria.
When deputies arrived, they found a black SUV parked on the side of the gravel road. The driver, a 62-year-old Swift County resident, was laying 10 feet in front of the vehicle.
Due to injuries sustained, the driver was flown by Life Link helicopter to a St. Cloud Hospital.
Several vehicle parts were recovered from the scene including bumper pieces, a large black antenna, and chrome pieces for a grill.
It was determined the suspect vehicle was a light-colored 1999–2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with damage to the front passenger bumper and passenger side of the vehicle.
On March 31, Swift County Dispatch received a tip about a truck with damage matching that description.
Deputies arrived on scene and believed the Silverado to be involved with the hit and run and took the vehicle as evidence.
Chief Deputy Mike Hoffman says this is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released when it is available.
