DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO) — The shooting deaths of a 3-year-old and his father near Detroit Lakes have been ruled a murder-suicide.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Holmesville Township northeast of Detroit Lakes Monday. The man’s brother went to the home after he did not show up to work. The brother found the body of 45-year-old Gene Bartnes. Deputies later found the body of Koltyn Bartnes.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office says Koltyn’s death has been ruled a homicide, and Gene died by suicide.
The Minnesota BCA is assisting with the investigation.
