Aaron Lee Banks/Hennepin County Jail
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (KFGO) – A Gustavus Adolphus College professor is charged with stealing more than $1,000 worth of ammunition and AR-15 parts from the Scheels in Eden Prairie.
Prosecutors say 52-year-old Aaron Banks was caught on the evening of March 14.
The officer reportedly saw Banks take a box with an AR trigger in it, and use a pocket knife to cut the plastic casing off without disturbing the security lock. He later pocketed the trigger, along with an AR charging handle and ammunition, the criminal complaint claims.
Banks then tried leaving the store without paying for any of the items, and was eventually arrested.
The store security guard told police Banks had stolen similar items in the weeks prior, allegedly taking more ammunition and gun parts on February 25, March 2, March 5, March 7, and March 9.
In all, Banks is accused of stealing more than $1,200 worth of items.
Banks is charged with theft and possessing burglary tools. He was conditionally released from custody on March 17 and is due back in court on May 6.
He is a longtime Health and Exercise Science professor at Gustavus Adolphus College.
