Josephine Nicholas, 40, Valley City, ND
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) – A Valley City woman was arrested after police say she crashed her minivan into a pickup on Wednesday morning.
Valley City Police responded to the 800 block of 6th Avenue NE just after 9 a.m. on March 25. A witness said they heard a loud bang and saw a white minivan sitting in the middle of the road.
The incident report says the driver, 40-year-old Josephine Nicholas, was trying to leave the scene of the crash, but the axle was damaged and the van was inoperable.
Officers say Nicholas hit a pickup that was parked along the street. The truck sustained damage to the driver’s side mirror, a tire and a rim.
Nicholas told officers she was driving her 14-year-old to a doctor’s appointment when the crash happened.
Responding officers say Nicholas was unsteady, very emotional and had watery eyes. An initial breath test registered a 0.316 blood alcohol content, which is more than three times the legal limit for driving.
Police say Nicholas has a permit, but no driver’s license. She was booked into the Stutsman County Jail.
Nicholas is charged in Barnes County with DUI, child neglect and criminal mischief.
A Valley City Police Officer brought the 14-year-old back home.
