Cass County mail-in ballot
How many of you have voted by mail? I have and plan on doing it again. That is, of course, if I’m allowed to. Every day I get up early and drive to Fargo, and many of those days I don’t get home until late. I’ve found that hosting a talk show and running several radio stations requires long hours. Especially if you want to continue to win.
I’ve always looked at voting as my duty and not a privilege. However, the people who run this country must ensure I have the opportunity to vote. They shouldn’t abuse that power by preventing me from doing so.
That’s what the Republican Party is attempting to do with the SAVE Act. They are doing everything they possibly can to prevent certain people from voting. And I can’t stress enough that it’s just certain people.
So the question we have to ask ourselves is, why? Why would they target certain people and certain genders? That answer is pretty easy. The majority of those groups of people don’t vote for them.
The next question is more moral than anything else. How can they believe in the Constitution and not believe in every American’s right to vote?
As I write this, the airport lines are backing up, and TSA agents are working without pay. All of this is happening because President Trump won’t allow a vote to keep it open. Not without blackmailing certain members of Congress to pass his bill restricting voting.
Many of you will now tell me that is how politics work. And you may be right! In fact, it wouldn’t take long to find examples of where both parties have done this before. The difference this time is that it’s taking away the most important right protected by the Constitution.
And it’s taking away the very thing Donald Trump just did, vote by mail.
Good riding with you,
Joel
