FAIRMOUNT, N.D. (KFGO) – A woman who struck and killed another woman while driving in southeast North Dakota has been charged with negligent homicide.
The Highway Patrol says, on Aug. 26 of last year, Danielle Stein was driving a car on Richland County Road 81 when she hit 45-year-old Mariah Buck who was riding a bicycle. Buck was riding in the same lane as Stein.
Buck was hit as she was turning into her driveway.
Court documents filed Thursday in Richland County say Buck was riding bike with her children when the crash happened.
Investigators say Stein was driving between 64 and 69 miles an hour in a 55 mile an hour zone, had no visual barriers, and her phone was used prior to the crash. They also say Stein did not swerve or brake until less than a second before the crash, indicating she was distracted at the time.
Buck died at the scene.
Negligent homicide is a class c felony.
