Benora Grace Bernier, daughter of Bennie and Gislena Gilbertson, was born in Barnesville, Minnesota, on July 9, 1933. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Barnesville. She graduated from Barnesville High School and attended Interstate Business College. After graduation, she worked at an insurance company in Fargo, ND.
Benora married her husband, Raymond Bernier, and lived in Barnesville and raised four children. She also worked in the family businesses A & B Motors and the Galaxie Supper Club in Barnesville. During her time in Barnesville, Benora was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Homemakers Group. In later years, they moved to Fargo where she worked at the Radisson Hotel. When Ray passed away in 2002, Benora moved to West Fargo and has been a member of Peace Lutheran Church in West Fargo.
During her lifetime she loved to curl up with a good book. She also enjoyed crafts and ceramics. In her later years, she enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. Her most treasured time was being spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lora (Bill) Card of Perham, MN, Carlotta (Ron) Dodge of Roseville, MN; and two sons, Ray C. (Ruth) Bernier of Fargo and Spencer (Sheryl) Bernier of Star Lake, MN; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Benora was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents, sister and brother-in-law Olivia and Jennings Klug, and grandson Landon Bernier.
Benora died on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Sheyenne Crossing Nursing Home in West Fargo with her family by her side. Thanks to Sheyenne Crossings for the care she received there. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to HIA, formerly known as Hospice of Red River Valley.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Ali Haugerud officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 AM that morning at the church. Burial will be in City Cemetery, Barnesville.
