Ramsey County deputy collides with car during pursuit (CBS Minnesota)
St. Paul, Minn. (KFGO) – One person died and others were injured in a crash early Wednesday morning involving a Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office squad car in downtown St. Paul.
The State Patrol says St. Paul Police officers spotted a stolen car. A deputy with emergency lights and sirens activated to assist, crashed into a vehicle that was not part of the pursuit near Regions Hospital.
The driver died at the hospital. One passenger suffered serious injuries. Other passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries and the deputy was also hospitalized. Officers followed the stolen vehicle for miles and attempted a traffic stop near Interstate 94 and Highway 280 when the driver sped off on the interstate.
The patrol says one of its troopers eventually stopped the driver, a 27-year-old man, using a PIT maneuver. He is in the Ramsey County Jail.
