FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex on the city’s south side on Friday afternoon.
The call came in at 2 p.m. to 1204 44th Street South, one block north of 13th Avenue just east of Hobby Lobby.
Assistant Fire Marshal Dawn Stollenwerk tells KFGO news fire crews arrived to black smoke coming from a first floor apartment. Firefighters say there was fire in one unit and smoke in the hallway.
Stollenwerk says a fire in the kitchen was extinguished within about 15 minutes.
One person inside the apartment was able to get out safely and no injuries were reported.
Stollenwerk says the apartment where the fire originated was damaged and there is smoke damage throughout the first floor of the building.
The Fargo Fire Department responded with five engines, one truck and two battalion chiefs. Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Sanford Ambulance and the Fargo Police Department who closed a section of 44th Street South for a brief period.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and a cost estimate of the damage is not yet available.
