Minnesota Vikings and Fargo Park District launching High School Girls Flag Football Program (Fargo Park District)
FARGO (KFGO) – The Minnesota Vikings and the Fargo Park District are launching a High School Girls Flag Football program serving the Red River Valley.
The two organizations say the pilot program provides an opportunity for female athletes to compete in one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports. It will be the first program of its kind in the state of North Dakota.
The program is open to girls in grades 9–12 from Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead and surrounding communities.
The North Dakota program aligns with the Vikings ongoing efforts to grow girls flag football and empower young women through sport, while laying the groundwork for future expansions across Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.
“As flag football continues to grow nationwide, it’s important that girls have access to organized, high-quality opportunities to play,” said Brett Taber, vice president of social impact at the Minnesota Vikings. “This program is an important step in expanding girls flag football throughout the region and building a foundation for future growth.”
The eight-week season will include weekly practices, six regular-season games, league playoffs and the opportunity to compete for a state championship.
Games will be played on Sundays, with practices held one evening per week at the Fargo Parks Sports Center.
“This program represents an exciting step forward for girls’ athletics in our region,” said Susan Faus, executive director at the Fargo Park District. “Partnering with the Minnesota Vikings allows us to provide a high-quality experience that emphasizes skill development, teamwork and confidence.”
Teams will consist of a minimum of 10 players, with capacity for up to eight teams.
Registration is $50 per participant, with full-coverage scholarships available for eligible athletes.
Space is limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, with a waitlist offered if capacity is reached.
