MOORHEAD (KFGO KVRR) – Prosecutors have filed charges against the driver of a Moorhead city truck who ran over and killed a boy last July.
Victor Port is charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and for operating the truck without the proper license. Port was driving the truck when 9-year-old Adam Amin was hit while riding his bicycle at the corner of 14th St. and 40th Ave. S. Port was heading north on 14th Street when he came to a stop at the intersection.
He told investigators he heard a bang when he drove through the intersection, and that he did not see Amin before the crash. Amin was riding his bike west, with his mother walking further behind him prior to the crash.
According to court documents, Amin had the right-of-way to enter the intersection.
Scene reconstruction from the Minnesota State Patrol and video from nearby Reinertsen Elementary School that captured the collision, corroborated what Port and other witnesses said. Based on the tests, the patrol determined Port had stopped in front of the stop line at the intersection, which placed Amin in a blind spot near the front and right of the truck.
The State Patrol’s investigation also discovered that Port’s Class A commercial driver’s license had been downgraded in May of 2024 due to an expired medical certification, and that he did not have the proper license at the time of the crash.
If convicted, Port faces a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 dollar fine on each for the two misdemeanor charges.
