ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (KFGO) – A man is okay after his UTV broke through the ice on Sunday morning.
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Lake Le Homme Dieu on the northeast side of Alexandria just before 11 a.m.
Deputies spoke with a man who said he was traveling through the channel near Tolena Point on his side-by-side when he broke through the ice. It happened in the middle of the channel near a pressure ridge.
The driver was able to get out of the side-by-side and contacted a friend to help him tow the vehicle out.
There were no injuries reported and the side-by-side was removed from the lake.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the ice is still unsafe in many areas. The open water has been marked with ‘thin ice’ signs.
The Minnesota DNR assisted on scene.
