The biofuels industry – especially as it relates to soy-based biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel – is poised for a bright and sunny future. Farmers and fuel industry representatives from around Minnesota will get a chance to learn about the state of the industry and new market opportunities during the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council’s annual See for Yourself (SFY) trip to the Clean Fuels Conference Jan. 19-22 in Orlando.
“I really appreciate the breakout sessions and workshops at this conference because there is a ton of phenomenal information to be had in the world of biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel,” said Rochelle Krusemark, MSR&PC District 8 director. “It’s fascinating to learn about the science behind biofuels and what’s in store for the future.”
The Clean Fuels Conference, hosted by Clean Fuels Alliance America, connects key players of the biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel industry. It features expert sessions, exhibits and showcases. Attendees include clean fuels producers and marketers, distributors, feedstock providers, fleet managers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), ESG officers and media.
This year’s Clean Fuels Conference will have a heavy focus on biofuels policy at both the state and federal levels, as well as new market opportunities for biodiesel such as for the marine shipping industry and sustainable aviation fuel.
“There’s a lot at stake for biodiesel especially as it pertains to federal policy, such as what the treasury is going to do with the 45Z tax credit, along with what’s going to happen with Renewable Volume Obligations and Small Refinery Exemptions,” said Mike Youngerberg, MSR&PC sr. director of product development & commercialization. “Some of the exciting new developments is the marine market opportunities and the potential for higher blends of biodiesel.”
In addition to Youngerberg and Krusemark, attending the Clean Fuels Conference on behalf of MSR&PC will be District 4 Director Paul Freeman from Starbuck; United Soybean Board Director Lawrence Sukalski from Fairmont; and Clean Fuels board member Chris Hill from Brewster.
The SFY trip is held in conjunction with MEG Corp, an industry leader in biodiesel product solutions, testing services and fuel consulting. MEG Corp has partnered with MSR&PC since 2007 to provide technical expertise to troubleshoot filter plugging and diesel issues, perform diesel studies and conduct best practices for diesel storage, handling and use education throughout Minnesota to continue positioning the North Star State as a national biofuels leader.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to bring diesel mechanics, fuel distributors and other people who are already partners of ours and may not even know it,” Krusemark said. “Often times it leads to future collaborations that supports the biodiesel and soybean industry.”
The Council is a member of Clean Fuels, which aims to advance the interests of its members by supporting sustainable biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel industry growth.
