University of Minnesota Extension is once again offering the Beginning Livestock Production online course in 2026, now with the option to earn a certificate of course completion. This flexible, self-paced program helps new producers strengthen their foundation in livestock management.
Participants explore essential animal science and husbandry topics tailored to beef and dairy cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, and swine including
- Nutrition
- Reproduction
- Housing and facilities
- Health
- Safe handling
Designed specifically for beginning producers, the course will help determine which species best fits students’ goals and farming system. It also provides guidance on planning the facilities, equipment, and skills needed to raise healthy, productive animals.
Learners can join bi-weekly Q&A sessions with the instructor to receive personalized guidance throughout the course. Those who complete all course requirements will earn a certificate and take the next step toward building a successful livestock enterprise.
Enrollment is open now through April 1st, 2026.
Course materials will be available February 1st until April 30th, 2026. Course fee: $55.
