WALKER, Minn. (KFGO) – The State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating an officer-involved shooting in northern Minnesota that left one person dead and a sheriff’s deputy wounded Sunday afternoon.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Old Agency Drive and Onigum Road NW near Leech Lake.
While investigating, the deputies tried to speak with a male walking along Onigum Road, but he ran. The deputies ran after him and shots were exchanged.
The male and a deputy were shot. The male died at the scene. The deputy was flown to a Fargo hospital. The deputy’s condition hasn’t been released.
The Sheriff’s Office says body worn cameras were active during the pursuit and shooting. The deputies involved have been placed on critical incident leave.
