Faith Dixon at a Sept, 2020 Black Lives Matter protest in Fargo (KFGO file)
MANDAN, N.D. (KFGO) – A Fargo woman has pleaded guilty to three counts of felony theft by deception for improper use of grant money from the State Department of Public Instruction.
Faith Dixon entered the pleas in Morton County.
The attorney general’s office, which prosecuted Dixon, says she was approved for up to $350,000 for the “Faith 4 Hope” after school program during the Covid-19 pandemic. The investigation revealed that most of the people receiving the money were Dixon’s family members.
A district court judge has accepted the pleas. The state will recommend that Dixon spend 11 months in jail and pay restitution of more than $100,000. The defense will argue for a sentence of four months. She will also be on probation for three years.
Dixon, a one-time Black Lives Matter activist, will be sentenced later. Her husband, Charles, is also charged in the case.
