ST. PAUL, Minn. – The daily Borealis passenger train between St. Paul and Chicago was one of Amtrak’s busiest in the country this summer with an average of 82% of seats filled.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says ridership dropped in June and July because the route has fewer seats. Amtrak replaced older cars with Superliners in March, cutting capacity by 27%.
Several states have asked Amtrak to add more cars, but there aren’t any available.
