District 4 – Walker area

CO Michael Cross (Lake George) worked waterfowl opener, small-game, big-game, angling, and off-highway vehicle enforcement throughout the week. Shoreline violations were investigated. Cross assisted the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office at Itasca State Park. Enforcement action was taken for small-game, waterfowl, angling, and off-highway vehicle violations.

CO Nick Baum (Park Rapids) patrolled the local area for migratory waterfowl hunters, small- and big-game hunters, and recreational vehicle riders. Baum found many waterfowl hunters enjoying opening weekend, with mixed success around the area. Baum observed numerous recreational vehicles on area trails with the fantastic weather over the week. Baum attended a firearms safety class at Camp Wilderness for the Boy Scouts. Baum took enforcement action for various violations.

CO Patrick McGowan (Cass Lake) worked Leech, Winnibigoshish and Cass lakes over the past week and weekend. McGowan checked numerous anglers and waterfowl hunters over the weekend. Waterfowl hunters had mixed success with the mild, sunny weather. Enforcement action was taken for an unplugged shotgun, using toxic shot while waterfowl hunting, waterfowl hunting without a license, and numerous boating violations.

CO Corey Sura (Remer) focused time on waterfowl- and small-game hunting enforcement. A complaint of hunter harassment was handled. Duck numbers for the area appear plentiful for the time being, despite the continuing warm weather.

CO Jacque Johnson (Longville) checked hunting activity and responded to multiple animal-related calls. Enforcement action taken for various waterfowl-hunting and ATV-related violations.
CO Levi Brown (Staples) assisted with in-service training this week. He also worked bear hunting, ATV enforcement, and fishing. Over the weekend, Brown spent time on the local waterways checking migratory waterfowl hunters. Brown saw a mixed bag of birds, but the most prevalent were wood ducks and teal.
