Why do the majority of farmers vote straight Republican? Commodity prices have been way higher during the past three Democratic Administrations. They had the ability to control their own future with checkoff dollars rather than living with tariffs. And yet, a majority still doesn’t care and continues to vote straight Republican on the ticket.
It can’t possibly be because they want less government. Under Donald Trump, they’ve never had more government! Government with a total disregard of local control too, which goes directly against what they say their Republican vote stands for. Counties, townships, and school boards have never had less power than now.
So let me just speculate why they vote the way they do: It’s because if what’s most important to them goes wrong, they won’t have to worry about it. As Congresswoman Fedorchak pointed out on my show, it can just be fixed with a disaster payment.
There’s just no risk to the job. It doesn’t matter if Trump’s government drives prices down, the check will still be in the mail. A lot of names could be used to describe it, but in the end, the American people will pay for it.
Inevitably, issues like gays, guns, and God become the focus. They are all important issues, but all easily used to divide and the Democrats fall for it each time. Issues that Democrats would foolishly put at the top of their list. Things like roads, water, and sewer should be at the top, but the GOP calls the shots.
In the end, it works. Not only because Democrats can’t figure it out, but because the GOP can.
And because farmers have no reason to care.
Good riding with you,
Joel
